New slate of executive leaders approved at annual business meeting in New York
NEW YORK (25 July 2016) — The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) announced today the election of Angela Witzany, CIA, QIAL, CRMA, as chairman of the organization’s 2016-2017 Global Board of Directors.
The election of Witzany and the entire Global Board was held at The IIA’s annual business meeting following the organization’s 75th International Conference in New York.
The IIA is the largest organization representing the interests of the profession and provides ethical and professional guidance, continuing education, and certifications to more than 185,000 members worldwide.
“Angela is among the most inspiring and passionate young leaders in internal auditing who will bring energy and drive to The IIA at a dynamic time in our profession,” said IIA President and CEO Richard Chambers, CIA, QIAL, CGAP, CCSA, CRMA. “I am thrilled with her election as our new global chairman.”
Witzany, head of internal audit at Sparkassen Versicherung AG, has chosen “Audit Never Sleeps” as her chairman’s theme to express the constant vigilance practitioners must embrace to identify and respond to risks that can threaten their organizations.
“Internal auditors have sought to add value to their organizations by working tirelessly and passionately to meet the evolving expectations of stakeholders and to become trusted advisers and partners to boards, audit committees, and management,” Witzany said.
In her travels to institutes, chapters, and other organizations around the world over the next 12 months, Witzany plans to share her message that internal auditors must be credible, reliable, and have strong relationships to ensure their organizations are well-positioned to meet the challenges of a dynamic and complex business environment.
Witzany already has a long volunteer history with The IIA and other professional organizations. She has served as chairman and senior vice chairman of IIA-Austria’s board. In Europe, she served as a board member of the European Confederation of Institutes of Internal Auditing (ECIIA) and completed her term as vice president in 2015. A member of The IIA’s Global Board of Directors since 2013, Witzany served most recently as senior vice chairman, as well as chairman of the Finance Committee and the Professional Guidance Advisory Council. She was also a member of the Professional Certifications Board.
Witzany has been an internal auditor in the insurance sector since 1997, when she developed Sparkassen Versicherung’s new internal audit function. She has served there as head of internal audit since 2001, and now has responsibility for internal audit activities in Austria and Central Eastern Europe. Further, Witzany serves as the Austrian Insurance Association’s vice president of the Committee of Internal Audit and Control. She has been an active member of that organization since 1997.
